Birds in the Foix reservoir

The Foix reservoir is located in the municipality of Castellet i la Gornal (Alt Penedès). As time has gone by it has become a very important wildlife area in our country. It is necessary to emphasize the great amount and variety of birds found there.

In winter many species originating in the north of Europe meet: ducks, herons, esplugabous, marine crows, etc. Other birds, like night herons (martinet de nit), or the fishing eagle (xivites), stop over to rest for a few days on their long migration.

The quality of the water is fundamental for the life of the plants and the animals that are food for many of birds.
